Performance and structure evolution of fluoindinate glass at high temperatures

Longfei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively evaluated the thermal properties, microstructure, crystal phase behaviors, and optical and luminescent properties of high-temperature FIG. It was found that high temperatures could lead to the fracture of bridge bonds between some [InF6](3-) octahedrons in FIG, causing glass structural instability and increasing the tendency of devitrification.

Direct generation of watt-level yellow Dy3+-doped fiber laser

Jinhai Zou et al.

Summary: The research team successfully demonstrated watt-level high-power yellow laser generation using Dy3+-doped ZBLAN fiber. They found that the reflectivity of the output coupler and the length of the gain fiber have significant impacts on the performance of the yellow laser, achieving a maximum efficiency of 33.6% and a maximum output power of 1.12 W. The study shows the potential of yellow Dy3+-doped ZBLAN fiber lasers in ophthalmology, astronomical exploration, and high-resolution spectroscopy applications.

Broadband mid-infrared supercontinuum generation in dispersion-engineered As2S3-silica nanospike waveguides pumped by 2.8 μm femtosecond laser

Pan Wang et al.

Summary: This paper reports the generation of broadband mid-infrared supercontinuum lasers using As2S3-silica nanospike hybrid waveguides, as well as the fabrication and investigation of linearly tapered millimeter-scale waveguides for the first time. These waveguides exhibit broader spectra, improved spectral coherence, long-term stability, and water resistance, offering an alternative route for generating broadband mid-IR supercontinua with applications in frequency metrology and molecular spectroscopy, especially in humid and aqueous environments.

Fluoroindate Glass Co-Doped with Yb3+/Ho3+ as a 2.85 μm Luminescent Source for MID-IR Sensing

Marcin Kochanowicz et al.

Summary: This study reports on the fabrication and analysis of near-infrared and mid-infrared luminescence spectra and their decays in fluoroindate glasses co-doped with Yb3+/Ho3+. It was found that the glass co-doped with 0.8YbF(3)/1.6HoF(3) exhibited the most effective sensitization for 2 mu m luminescence, while the maximum emission intensity in the mid-infrared spectral range was obtained in glass co-doped with 0.1YbF(3)/1.4HoF(3). The efficiency of Yb3+ -> Ho3+ energy transfer was calculated to be up to 61%, indicating the potential for efficient infrared source for MID-IR sensing applications.

Recent advance in hollow-core fiber high-temperature and high-pressure sensing technology [Invited]

Zhe Zhang et al.

Summary: The pure-silica hollow-core fiber (HCF) has excellent thermostabilities, making it beneficial for high-temperature sensing applications. The air-core microstructure of the HCF serves as an inherent gas container, making it a good candidate for gas or gas pressure sensing. Continuous efforts in designing, fabricating, and characterizing high temperature and high-pressure sensors with HCFs aim at improving sensing performances, with advancements in novel anti-resonant HCFs leading to further progress in the field.
