Generating diverse functionalities simultaneously and independently for arbitrary linear polarized illumination enabled by a chiral transmission-reflection-selective bifunctional metasurface

Tonghao Liu et al.

Summary: A multifunctional metasurface capable of manipulating electromagnetic waves and achieving diverse functions has become a hotspot in electromagnetics. However, current designs are limited to operating under specific polarization states, restricting their widespread applications. This study proposes a strategy for a chiral transmission-reflection-selective bifunctional metasurface that can generate two independent functions for left-handed and right-handed circular polarizations, as well as any linear polarization. Three proof-of-concept metadevices are constructed to demonstrate the feasibility and potential in engineering applications.

Vectorial Compound Metapixels for Arbitrary Nonorthogonal Polarization Steganography

Zi-Lan Deng et al.

Summary: Malus' law serves as the foundation for image steganography based on orthogonal polarizations of light, but introducing a vectorial compound metapixel design allows for arbitrary nonorthogonal polarization multiplexing of independent grayscale images with high fidelity and strong concealment. This new approach sheds light on metaoptics and unlocks the full potential of metasurface polarization optics.

Wanying Liu et al.

Summary: The study investigates the implementation of terahertz mode and polarization division multiplexing using all-dielectric metasurfaces, which convert terahertz incidence with fundamental Gaussian mode into high-order HG modes while reducing beam divergence and spatially separating each mode through mode conversion and integration of phase distributions. The proposed multifunctional metasurfaces pave the way for potential applications of metasurface-based devices in terahertz communication systems.
