Treatment of Glaucoma with Natural Products and Their Mechanism of Action: An Update

Ru Hui Sim et al.

Summary: Glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible blindness, mainly caused by increased intraocular pressure and resulting damage to optic nerve and retinal ganglion cells. In addition to mechanical and vascular dysfunctions, oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, and excitotoxicity are also involved in its pathogenesis. Natural products with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties show potential for glaucoma treatment.

Microinvasive Glaucoma Surgery: A Review of Schlemm's Canal-Based Procedures

Joanna Konopinska et al.

Summary: This review focuses on microinvasive glaucoma surgery based on Schlemm's canal, highlighting the removal of the trabecular meshwork or increase in tension in the meshwork. The review analyzes the role, anatomy, and physiology of the trabecular meshwork and Schlemm's canal, as well as different microsurgical interventions targeted at increasing aqueous humor outflow in primary open-angle glaucoma.
