Maternal dietary diversity during pregnancy and congenital heart defects: a case-control study

Jiaomei Yang et al.

Summary: Maternal dietary diversity during pregnancy may be associated with a lower risk of congenital heart defects (CHD) in offspring. Efforts to promote dietary diversity during pregnancy need to be strengthened in order to reduce the prevalence of CHD in the Chinese population.

Element profiles in blood and teeth samples of children with congenital heart diseases in comparison with healthy ones

Siddika Songul Yalcin et al.

Summary: The study compared the levels of certain elements in blood and teeth samples of children with congenital heart defects, finding significant differences in calcium, iron, copper, molybdenum, magnesium, cadmium, and mercury levels compared to healthy controls. The findings suggest that supplementation of magnesium may benefit patients with CHD, and monitoring balanced gestational micronutrient intake is crucial for fetal cardiac development and infant well-being.

Fetal Programming Is Deeply Related to Maternal Selenium Status and Oxidative Balance; Experimental Offspring Health Repercussions

Maria Luisa Ojeda et al.

Summary: Nutrient intake of selenium by mothers during pregnancy and lactation can have a significant impact on infant tissue development. Low selenium supply may lead to oxidative stress affecting pregnancy and fetal development negatively, associated with metabolic imbalance and growth retardation in offspring.
