Female reproductive health and inflammatory bowel disease: A practice-based review

Alessandro Armuzzi et al.

Summary: Inflammatory bowel diseases, such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, have a significant impact on the quality of life of patients worldwide. Women with these conditions face gender-specific issues related to body image, sexuality, menstruation, contraception, fertility, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and menopause. It is important for physicians specializing in inflammatory bowel diseases to recognize and address these concerns to ensure the overall well-being and health of female patients.

RNA-Seq Analysis on the Microbiota Associated with the White Shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) in Different Stages of Development

Raul Enrique Valle-Gough et al.

Summary: This study investigates the functional role of the microbiome during the development of the white leg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) and finds that the microbiome composition and gene expression are influenced by the stage of development and culture conditions. The study provides evidence of the complex metabolic network present throughout the life cycle of L. vannamei.

Efficient and Quality-Optimized Metagenomic Pipeline Designed for Taxonomic Classification in Routine Microbiological Clinical Tests

Sylvie Buffet-Bataillon et al.

Summary: Metagenomics analysis is widely used for clinical diagnosis, but we need confidence in interpreting the results. In this study, we propose a methodology for taxon identification and abundance assessment of microbiota data, with a focus on quality control and the introduction of an external positive control. The use of multiple complementary classifiers greatly improves the reliability of the analysis results.

Summary: Pregnancy is associated with reduced inflammatory activity in mothers with IBD, however, babies born to mothers with IBD show subclinical inflammation in early life. The study findings suggest a correlation between maternal FC levels and bacterial abundance.

Ovarian Reserve Assessed by the Anti-Mullerian Hormone and Reproductive Health Parameters in Women With Crohn'S Disease, a Case-Control Study

Tomas Koller et al.

Summary: In women with Crohn's disease, once disease activity is controlled, reproductive health and ovarian reserve do not differ substantially from healthy controls. The age-related decrease in anti-Mullerian hormone levels may differ in subgroups of CD patients, particularly those who have undergone surgery or are older than 30 years with a longer disease duration. Age is identified as the single independent predictor of low ovarian reserve.

Metaproteomics-An Advantageous Option in Studies of Host-Microbiota Interaction

Oleg Karaduta et al.

Summary: The gut microbiome plays a crucial role in maintaining host health by contributing to homeostasis, enhancing digestive efficiency, and aiding in the development of the immune system. Therapeutic manipulation of the gut microbiota through dietary changes, prebiotics, probiotics, and fecal microbiome transplantation is being increasingly recognized. Utilizing multi-omics technologies, particularly metaproteomics, is providing new insights into host-microbiota interactions.

The impact of medical therapies and factors related to treatment procedures in women with rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease receiving assisted reproduction: a nationwide cohort study

Bente Mertz Norgard et al.

Summary: In women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and/or chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), prescribed corticosteroid before embryo transfer and embryo transfer at the blastocyst stage were associated with successful assisted reproductive technology (ART). On the other hand, intracytoplasmic sperm injection appeared to slightly reduce the chances of success. Antiinflammatory/immunosuppressive agents and type of hormone protocols did not show significant importance.
