Monitoring newt communities in urban area using eDNA metabarcoding

Leo Charvoz et al.

Summary: In 45 ponds in urban areas of Geneva canton, Switzerland, the effectiveness of eDNA metabarcoding compared to conventional visual surveys of newt diversity was assessed. The results overall were consistent with conventional surveys, confirming the utility of eDNA metabarcoding. In some cases, species were only detected genetically, while in a small percentage of cases, the observations were not supported by genetic testing.
