Mesoporous silica aerogel reinforced dental composite: Effects of microstructure and surface modification

Alireza Aminoroaya et al.

Summary: A mesoporous silica aerogel was synthesized through the sol-gel process and modified with silane-based modifiers to investigate its impact on the fracture mechanics of dental composites. The results showed that increasing filler content enhanced flexural modulus and strength, while the modification of aerogels improved fracture characteristics and wettability of the composites. The mesoporous structure of the fillers predominantly influenced the filler-matrix adhesion strength at the same filler content.

A nanoporous Three-dimensional graphene aerogel doped with a carbon quantum Dot-TiO2 composite that exhibits superior activity for the catalytic photodegradation of organic pollutants

Shen Shen et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel 3D graphene aerogel doped with carbon quantum dots decorated TiO2 nanosheets was successfully fabricated and applied as an efficient catalyst for degrading organic pollutants in aqueous solutions under visible-light irritation. The unique structure of the 3D graphene aerogel provided fast charge transfer channels, leading to significantly higher degradation rates compared to CDs-TNs and 3DGA alone. Additionally, the 3DGA@CDs-TNs exhibited excellent stability and recyclability during the experiments, confirming its durability and practicality.

Photocatalytic degradation of bisphenol A using titanium dioxide@nanodiamond composites under UV light illumination

Y. M. Hunge et al.

Summary: Organic impurities such as dyes, acids, and alcohols are discharged into potable water sources, posing a global environmental challenge. Conventional methods for removing these pollutants are inefficient, leading to the exploration of advanced oxidation processes like photocatalysis. The study demonstrates that TiO2@nanodiamond composites show efficient degradation of organic pollutants under UV light, offering a promising solution for wastewater treatment.

Self-floating biomass charcoal supported flower-like plasmon silver/carbon, nitrogen co-doped defective TiO2 as robust visible light photocatalysts

Chunxu Wu et al.

Summary: The self-floating biomass charcoal supported flower-like plasmon Ag/C, N co-doped defective TiO2 photocatalyst shows excellent visible-light-driven photocatalytic performance, with a photocatalytic degradation ratio of 2,4-dichlorophenol and hydrogen evolution significantly higher than pristine TiO2, attributed to the synergistic effect of the surface plasmon resonance effect of Ag nanoparticles, efficient C, N co-doping, and formation of oxygen vacancy defects. The long-term stability of this novel self-floating photocatalyst indicates its potential practical applications.

Nanophotocatalytic treatment of seawater using TiO2 immobilized and suspension system under solar irradiation

Varghese Manappallil Joy et al.

Summary: This research investigated the efficiency of TiO2-suspension and TiO2-immobilized photocatalysis for pretreating seawater under natural solar irradiation. Modeling and optimization studies were performed to determine the optimal settings for input parameters in suspension and immobilized systems for organic degradation. The study found that the TiO2-immobilized system achieved a TOC removal efficiency of 51.98% and COD removal efficiency of 57.25%, while the TiO2-suspension system achieved a TOC removal efficiency of 73.47% and COD removal efficiency of 65.48%.

Carbon-doped titania-polymethylsilsesquioxane aerogels for the photocatalytic degradation of antibiotics

Hailong Xu et al.

Summary: The study introduced a highly porous anatase TiO2-polymethylsilsesquioxane (PMSQ) aerogel with nonmetal carbon dopant for enhanced removal of antibiotics in wastewater or natural aquatic systems by visible light photocatalysis. After heat treatment, the aerogel lost its hydrophobicity and showed increased efficiency in removing a model antibiotic. Both hydrophobic and hydrophilic gels demonstrated high removal efficiency and recyclability.
