Temperature sensing down to 4 K with erbium-doped tellurite glasses

R. Yatskiv et al.

Summary: Two binary tellurite glasses with different concentrations of Er3+ ions were prepared and compared for their potential use in optical temperature sensing at cryogenic temperatures. By optimizing the concentration of erbium ions, luminescence intensity ratio of selected levels can be used for non-contact optical temperature sensing.

Transparent Glasses and Glass-Ceramics in the Ternary System TeO2-Nb2O5-PbF2

Juliana Santos Barbosa et al.

Summary: Transparent fluorotellurite glasses were successfully prepared in the ternary system TeO2-Nb2O5-PbF2, allowing high incorporation of PbF2 without loss of glass forming ability. Compositions with higher PbF2 contents exhibit preferential precipitation of lead oxyfluoride at lower temperatures, which is controlled by a volume nucleation mechanism. Doping with Eu3+ promotes efficient nucleation and leads to transparent glass-ceramics with higher quantum efficiencies, making these new glass compositions promising hosts for luminescence applications in the middle infrared region.

Structural and Photoluminescence Investigations of Tb3+/Eu3+ Co-Doped Silicate Sol-Gel Glass-Ceramics Containing CaF2 Nanocrystals

Natalia Pawlik et al.

Summary: In this study, Tb3+/Eu3+ co-doped xerogels and glass-ceramics containing CaF2 nanocrystals were prepared and characterized, with in situ formation of fluoride crystals verified by XRD and TEM. The study of Tb3+/Eu3+ energy transfer process was conducted through excitation and emission spectra, showing varying ET efficiencies due to different molar ratios and interionic distances. The presence of luminescence bands for both Tb3+ and Eu3+ ions under NUV excitation was observed, indicating their mutual coexistence and the effect of co-doping on fluorescence lifetimes.

Thermal Evolutions to Glass-Ceramics Bearing Calcium Tungstate Crystals in Borate Glasses Doped with Photoluminescent Eu3+ Ions

Takahito Otsuka et al.

Summary: The thermal evolutions of calcium-tungstate-borate glasses were investigated in order to develop luminescent glass-ceramics using Eu3+ dopant. It was found that single-phase precipitation of CaWO4 crystals in the borate glass matrix was possible at temperatures above the glass transition temperature T-g. The Eu3+ ions were excluded from the CaWO4 crystals and positioned in the borate glass phase, providing higher symmetry surrounding the Eu3+ ions.
