Strength Properties of Structural Glulam Manufactured from Pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) Side Boards

Radoslaw Mirski et al.

Summary: This study assessed the static bending strength of pine glulam manufactured in Poland, finding that beams with vertical timber arrangement had slightly higher strength compared to beams with horizontal arrangement, which also had a smaller confidence interval. Both beam types were considered to exhibit high bending strength of over 40 N/mm², with only a slight difference in the value of the 5th percentile between them.

Experimental and analytical investigation on fire resistance of glulam-concrete composite beams

Hao Du et al.

Summary: This research investigated the fire resistance of timber-concrete composite beams and found that the fire resistance of the composite beam decreased with the increase of the load ratio, while the presence of timber board interlayer and fire-rated gypsum plasterboard could improve the fire resistance of the composite beam.

Pine Logs Sorting as a Function of Bark Thickness

Radoslaw Mirski et al.

Summary: The process of sorting softwood raw materials aims at full automation, using techniques like laser and optical scanning for measuring and sorting wood with bark. The thickness of the bark is influenced by various factors, with adopted diametral intervals playing a significant role for pine wood. Analysis of automatic sorting results revealed numerous cases of log-size mismatch.
