Progress in the application of surface engineering methods in immobilizing TiO2 and ZnO coatings for environmental photocatalysis

Amir H. Navidpour et al.

Summary: Photocatalysis is widely used for organic pollutant degradation, with TiO2 and ZnO as the best candidates. Agglomeration and recycling are challenges in practical applications. Advanced deposition processes provide promising structures. Photoelectrocatalysis shows higher efficiency for persistent organic pollutant degradation.

Preparation of ZnO-carbon quantum dot composite thin films with superhydrophilic surface

Mohammad Zirak et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of different parameters such as CQDs concentrations, substrate temperatures, nozzle-substrate distances, and post-annealing on the structure of CQDs-ZnO composite thin films. It was found that these parameters significantly influenced the optical, morphological, and surface properties of the thin films. The diffusion and evaporation of CQDs during deposition and annealing processes played a key role in determining the final morphology and optical transmittance of the thin films.

Enhanced photocatalytic activity of Mg-doped ZnO thin films prepared by sol-gel method

Muhammad R. Islam et al.

Summary: Undoped ZnO and Mg-doped ZnO thin films were synthesized by sol-gel dip-coating technique. The study showed that Mg doping increased the porosity of the films, decreased their crystallinity, and led to the formation of localized energy states. The enhanced photocatalytic efficiency of Mg-doped ZnO thin films was attributed to charge trapping by localized states and an increase in surface area due to porosity induced by Mg doping.

A numerical solution to the effects of surface roughness on water-coal contact angle

Chong Li et al.

Summary: Coal dust poses a great threat to the health and safety of coal mine workers, and wet dust removal is an effective method. Research shows that the surface roughness of coal affects the wetting of droplets, influencing the contact angle of hydrophilic and hydrophobic coal surfaces.

Surface roughness dominated wettability of carbon fiber in gas diffusion layer materials revealed by molecular dynamics simulations

X. L. Wang et al.

Summary: The study focuses on enhancing the surface hydrophobicity of commercial GDL through different methods, resulting in increased surface roughness and improved water removal capacity. By tailoring the surface roughness of carbon fibers in GDL materials, the water contact angle can be significantly increased to enhance water removal ability.
