PLA/HA Multiscale Nano-/Micro-Hybrid 3D Scaffolds Provide Inductive Cues to Stems Cells to Differentiate into an Osteogenic Lineage

Joseph A. Ayariga et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effectiveness of combining 3D printing and electrospinning to create hybrid 3D scaffolds for stem cells differentiation into osteogenic lineage. The scaffolds mimicked the extracellular matrix in structure and bioactivity, providing inductive cues for cells. The incorporation of hydroxyapatite promoted cell attachment and differentiation, leading to bone tissue regeneration.

Biofilm Formation by Pseudomonas aeruginosa in a Novel Septic Arthritis Model

Dingbin Li et al.

Summary: This study established a rabbit model of septic arthritis caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, demonstrating the formation of biofilms in the knee joint cavity. Scanning electron microscopy and PNA-FISH assays were used to observe the biofilm structures and fiber deposition in the synovial membrane. The findings suggest that c-di-GMP plays a key role in biofilm formation in the rabbit models.

The Effect of Bottom Profile Dimples on the Femoral Head on Wear in Metal-on-Metal Total Hip Arthroplasty

J. Jamari et al.

Summary: The study showed that adding dimples can reduce contact pressure and wear in total hip arthroplasty, with ball type dimples having the best ability to reduce wear compared to other types, reducing wear by 24.3% to 31% compared to no dimples. This indicates that surface texturing with appropriate dimple bottom geometry can extend the lifetime of hip implants.
