A delay nonautonomous model for the impacts of fear and refuge in a three species food chain model with hunting cooperation

Nazmul Sk et al.

Summary: In this study, the dynamics of a three species food chain model with hunting cooperation in predators and anti-predator behavior in prey population are examined. Results show that refuge plays a stabilizing role in the system, while hunting cooperation disrupts stability and leads to oscillations. Fear of middle-predator tends to stabilize the system, while fear of top-predator creates instability. Time delays in processes and seasonal forcing of parameters result in different types of periodic solutions and complex bursting patterns in the system.

Dynamics of an infected prey-generalist predator system with the effects of fear, refuge and harvesting: deterministic and stochastic approach

Nazmul Sk et al.

Summary: This study proposes a predator-prey model with infection in the prey population, considering fear, refuge and harvesting factors. The expression for basic reproduction number is obtained, and the global stability of disease-free and endemic equilibria is established. It is found that controlling the value of basic reproduction number less than one can eradicate the disease from the system. Additionally, an extension is made by including environmental noise, and sufficient conditions for extinction of species are derived based on environmental noise.

AN ECOEPIDEMIC SEASONALLY FORCED MODEL FOR THE COMBINED EFFECTS OF FEAR, ADDITIONAL FOODS AND SELECTIVE PREDATION

Sasanka Shekhar Maity et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate a predator-prey system with infected prey population and suppressed growth due to fear of predation. The predators are able to differentiate between infected and susceptible prey and avoid the infected ones. The model is analyzed mathematically and the existence of Hopf bifurcation is discussed. Simulation results show that selective feeding of predators stabilizes the system, while fear factor and disease prevalence induce oscillations. For the seasonally forced system, conditions for the existence of positive periodic solutions and their global attractivity are obtained.

Bifurcations, chaos, and multistability in a nonautonomous predator-prey model with fear

Mainul Hossain et al.

Summary: The fear effect caused by predators significantly alters the system dynamics and drives an otherwise irregular system toward regularity. The interaction between prey's birth rate reduction and predator's consumption rate has substantial impacts on population dynamics. Analytical studies include exploring conditions for local stability of equilibrium points, existence, and direction of Hopf bifurcation, revealing rich and complex dynamics in the system.

A NONAUTONOMOUS MODEL FOR THE INTERACTIVE EFFECTS OF FEAR, REFUGE AND ADDITIONAL FOOD IN A PREY-PREDATOR SYSTEM

Nazmul Sk et al.

Summary: Recent studies have recognized the importance of fear, refuge, and additional food in ecological systems. An investigation of their combined effects in a prey-predator system with Crowly-Martin type functional response revealed significant impacts on population densities and system dynamics. The presence of prey refuge and additional food for predators were found to sustain populations in the habitat, but also potentially lead to extinction of prey species and rapid increases in predator populations. Additional complexity arises from considering seasonal variations in the cost of fear, refuge, and growth rates due to additional food.

Delay-induced chaos and its possible control in a seasonally forced eco-epidemiological model with fear effect and predator switching

Saswati Biswas et al.

Summary: Fear of predation risk can have both beneficial and detrimental effects on prey animals, by limiting their exposure to potential predators and also by restricting their access to optimal resources. Research shows that the impact of fear on system stability has a threshold level, and considering factors like time lags and seasonal variations can add complexity to ecosystem dynamics. Chaotic behavior in the system can be suppressed by the time lag in fear effect on infection dynamics, offering important ecological insights into predator-prey interactions involving parasites.
