A binary PSO-based ensemble under-sampling model for rebalancing imbalanced training data

Jinyan Li et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel ensemble method that combines the advantages of ensemble learning and under-sampling by using a multi-objective strategy, resulting in significantly improved performance in imbalanced classification while maintaining the integrity of the original dataset. The proposed method outperforms single ensemble methods, state-of-the-art under-sampling methods, and combinations of these methods with the traditional PSO instance selection algorithm according to experimental results.

Zulqurnain Sabir et al.

Summary: The present study aims to solve a class of nonlinear boundary value problems arising in the thermal explosion's theory using unsupervised artificial neural networks. The analysis includes different numbers of neurons, absolute error performances, and complexity cost. Genetic algorithm and active-set approach are used to optimize the error function for solving the problems. The designed scheme using the hybrid combination of GA-ASA is validated by comparing the obtained solutions with the true solutions. Additionally, statistical analysis is performed to verify the reliability and competency of the proposed method for solving the singular model.

INTERIOR POINT METHODS CAN EXPLOIT STRUCTURE OF CONVEX PIECEWISE LINEAR FUNCTIONS WITH APPLICATION IN RADIATION THERAPY

Bram L. Gorissen

Summary: This study finds that using auxiliary variables to model a convex piecewise linear function in linear optimization framework can result in a special structure in the reduced KKT system of the dual problem. By efficiently detecting and utilizing this structure with an interior point method, significant improvements in speed and dose distribution compared to current algorithms are achieved in the inverse planning problem in radiation therapy.
