Donglin Han et al.

Summary: Increasing Ce content in Y-doped BaZrO3, BaCeO3, and their solid solutions stabilizes protons, increases oxide ion conductivity, and decreases hole conduction, thereby enhancing the ionic conduction of BZCY20 for improved performance in fuel cells and electrolysis cells.

Enhancing Oxygen Reduction Activity and Cr Tolerance of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Cathodes by a Multiphase Catalyst Coating

Yinghua Niu et al.

Summary: Intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs) face challenges due to the sluggish oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and cathode degradation. A highly efficient multiphase catalyst coating significantly enhances the ORR activity and durability. Experimental results show improved peak power density and increased durability against Cr and H2O. Both the BCFN phase and BaCO3 phase contribute to the improved performance of the LSCF cathode.

Layer-structured triple-conducting electrocatalyst for water-splitting in protonic ceramic electrolysis cells: Conductivities vs. activity

Wenyuan Li et al.

Summary: The study highlights the importance of proton conductivity in sustaining a larger active surface area for faster reaction, while oxygen conductivity was found to be insignificant and surface oxygen removal was identified as the most rate-limiting process. Electronic conductivity was not a direct limiting factor, but could introduce extra resistance in electron transfer processes at high temperatures.

Transition from perovskite to misfit-layered structure materials: a highly oxygen deficient and stable oxygen electrode catalyst†

Muhammad Saqib et al.

Summary: A novel misfit-layered compound GCCCO has been reported as a superior and durable bifunctional oxygen electrode material for RPCCs, showing high power densities and current densities. The superior catalytic performances of GCCCO are attributed to its oxygen defect rich structure, triple conducting property, needle-like grain morphology, and suitable thermal expansion coefficient.
