A Transient-Response methodology based on experiments and modeling for Cu-Redox Half-Cycle kinetic analysis on a Cu-SSZ-13 SCR catalyst

Dhruba J. Deka et al.

Summary: The study developed a transient-response methodology for studying individual SCR Cu-redox half cycles. The methodology allows quantification of various parameters and provides insights into the reaction pathways and activation energies. The results demonstrate that OHC increases faster than RHC with temperature, and RHC limits the SCR process except at the lowest temperature.

Summary: This study investigates the redox mechanism of Low-Temperature SCR on Cu-CHA using various techniques, proposing a Cu-II pair mediated pathway for the reduction half-cycle, challenging previous mechanistic proposals based on isolated Cu-II ions. The results highlight the important role of dinuclear Cu complexes in both oxidation and reduction reactions of Low-Temperature SCR.

Summary: A kinetic model is used to describe the surface coverage of Cu-amine complexes on different sites in Cu-SSZ-13, with inputs from experimental data and density functional theory estimations. The model is further modified to predict NH3 adsorption and desorption rates on oxidized and reduced catalysts, with consistent results from various experimental techniques and calculations.

N2O Formation during NH3-SCR over Different Zeolite Frameworks: Effect of Framework Structure, Copper Species, and Water

Joonsoo Han et al.

Summary: The study found that Cu/CHA has a framework structure that favors the formation of AN, thereby reducing the generation of N2O, but also leading to the release of N2O through AN decomposition. The addition of water inhibits the formation of AN and increases the selectivity for AN decomposition to NO2 instead of N2O.

The Role of H+- and Cu+-Sites for N2O Formation during NH3-SCR over Cu-CHA

Yingxin Feng et al.

Summary: The formation of N2O over CHA and Cu-CHA zeolite catalysts during NH3-SCR is found to be connected with NO + NH3 reaction over Cu-sites, rather than direct NH4NO3 decomposition. This finding provides an explanation for the experimentally observed low-temperature N2O formation and the relation between Cu loading and N2O formation. These proposed mechanisms offer strategies to enhance the selectivity to N-2 during NH3-SCR.

Elucidating the Significance of Copper and Nitrate Speciation in Cu-SSZ-13 for N2O Formation during NH3-SCR

Leila Negahdar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the formation of N2O during NH3-SCR over Cu-SSZ-13 catalysts and establishes a link between the copper environment and N2O production. By comparing two different Cu-SSZ-13 samples, the study reveals an important correlation between the catalytic behavior of Cu-zeolites and the nature of their metal ion loading and speciation.

Transient Kinetic Analysis of Low-Temperature NH3-SCR over Cu-CHA Catalysts Reveals a Quadratic Dependence of Cu Reduction Rates on CuII

Federica Gramigni et al.

Summary: NO and NH3 can readily reduce CuII at low temperatures according to a 1:1:1:1 stoichiometry over Cu-CHA catalysts. The reduction rates of Cu-II show a quadratic dependence on Cu-II, suggesting a dinuclear-Cu-II mediated RHC pathway. Water significantly inhibits the Cu-II reduction rate in the reaction cascade.

N2O Formation Mechanism During Low-Temperature NH3-SCR over Cu-SSZ-13 Catalysts with Different Cu Loadings

Dongwei Yao et al.

Summary: The formation and decomposition mechanisms of NH4NO3 over Cu-SSZ-13 with different Cu loadings were investigated through in situ DRIFTS studies. Higher Cu content catalysts showed stronger oxidative ability, leading to easier formation of NH4NO3 and subsequently N2O. The presence of NO2 led to the formation of NH4NO3 through reaction with NH3, with Cu(OH)+ playing a role in facilitating the reaction between NH4NO3 and NO.

Catalytic site requirements for N2O decomposition on Cu-, Co-, and Fe-SSZ-13 zeolites

Fan Lin et al.

Summary: N2O decomposition on Cu, Co, and Fe-exchanged SSZ-13 zeolite catalysts follows a dual-site mechanism or a single-site mechanism. The reaction is limited by N-O cleavage under low pressure and first-order kinetic regime. Fe-SSZ-13 exhibits lower activation barriers, leading to a higher N2O decomposition rate.

Influence of ZCuOH, Z2Cu, and Extraframework CuxOy Species in Cu-SSZ-13 on N2O Formation during the Selective Catalytic Reduction of NOx with NH3

Arthur J. Shih et al.

Summary: The study showed that different Cu species in Cu-SSZ-13 catalysts have varying effects on N2O formation rates, with ZCuOH exhibiting the fastest rate and extraframework CuxOy being slower. N2O formation may occur during the standard SCR reduction step, and increasing the fraction of Z(2)Cu active centers in commercial systems can reduce N2O emissions.

Mobility and Reactivity of Cu+ Species in Cu-CHA Catalysts under NH3-SCR-NOx Reaction Conditions: Insights from AIMD Simulations

Reisel Millan et al.

Summary: The migration of copper cations acting as active sites for selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides in Cu-CHA catalysts is temperature and feed composition-dependent. Diffusion of [Cu(NH3)(2)](+) complexes is hindered by excess NH3 or NO in the initial cavity, as well as modified by the presence of O-2. This study provides evidence for the presence of two different reaction mechanisms at low and high temperatures in SCR reactions.

Kinetic and spectroscopic insights into the behaviour of Cu active site for NH3-SCR over zeolites with several topologies

Yusuke Ohata et al.

Summary: The study found that Cu-zeolites with different topologies showed variations in low-temperature NH3-SCR activity, with *BEA zeolites exhibiting extremely high turnover frequencies at low Cu densities. The turnover frequency for NH3-SCR was mainly influenced by the Cu+ to Cu2+ reoxidation cycle, and the zeolite structure and distribution of ion-exchange sites played a crucial role in this process.
