Reversible Thermosalience in a One-Dimensional Coordination Polymer Preceded by Anisotropic Thermal Expansion and the Shape Memory Effect

Bibhuti Bhusan Rath et al.

Summary: The reversible thermosalient effect in a one-dimensional CP is characterized by high thermal expansion coefficients and self-restorative shape memory effect. Additionally, the CP shows reversible contraction and recovery, indicating great potential as a multicyclic actuator. The unique thermal responsive behavior in metal-organic materials allows for 20 repeated heating-cooling cycles in differential scanning calorimetry experiments.

Thermosalience of 1,2,4,5-Tetrachlorobenzene

Durga Prasad Karothu et al.

Summary: Crystals undergoing thermosalient phase transition exhibit small and cooperative rearrangement of structural units, leading to rapid shape transformation and space progression, enabling efficient conversion of heat into mechanical work. Single crystals of 1,2,4,5-tetrachlorobenzene (TCB) demonstrate reversible thermosalient effect, occurring below room temperature unlike the tetrabromo compound.

Jumping Crystal Based on an Organic Charge Transfer Complex with Reversible ON/OFF Switching of Luminescence by External Thermal Stimuli

Yifu Chen et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel concept of designing versatile jumping crystals by introducing a component that can easily escape under stimuli, which is more reliable and achievable. A charge transfer complex was constructed to demonstrate various jumping behaviors and reversible switching of luminescence under thermal stimuli, as well as achieving rare dynamic internal conversion between electronic and optical functions in the system. These findings may guide the creation of a new generation of advanced multifunctional jumping crystals.
