Beyond the standard quantum limit for parametric amplification of broadband signals

M. Renger et al.

Summary: The key of the study is the low-noise amplification of weak microwave signals, which can be overcome by employing nondegenerate parametric amplification to achieve higher quantum efficiency beyond the standard quantum limit. Experimentally, it is demonstrated that using a Josephson parametric amplifier can achieve higher quantum efficiency than the SQL.

Circuit quantum electrodynamics

Alexandre Blais et al.

Summary: Circuit quantum electrodynamics (QED) is an independent and thriving field of research that allows unprecedented detailed study and control of light-matter interaction at the quantum level. It has become essential in current approaches to gate-based digital quantum information processing with superconducting circuits, and also provides a framework for the study of hybrid quantum systems. The coherent coupling of superconducting qubits to microwave photons, dispersive qubit readout, and different regimes of light-matter interaction are key aspects of circuit QED.

Quasi-phasematching in a poled Josephson traveling-wave parametric amplifier with three-wave mixing

A. B. Zorin

Summary: The concept of quasi-phasematching (QPM) is developed in a Josephson traveling-wave parametric amplifier (JTWPA) with three-wave mixing (3WM), resulting in a relatively large and flat bandwidth with strong suppression of unwanted modes. This is achieved by periodically inverting groups of flux-biased radio frequency superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs) in the JTWPA.

Quantum model for rf-SQUID-based metamaterials enabling three-wave mixing and four-wave mixing traveling-wave parametric amplification

Angelo Greco et al.

Summary: In this paper, a quantum model for Josephson-based metamaterials working at the single-photon level in the three-wave mixing (3WM) and four-wave mixing (4WM) regimes is presented. The model utilizes a Hamiltonian approach to analytically determine the system's time evolution, and evaluates the dependence of the metamaterial's nonlinearities on circuit parameters while considering the effects of experimental conditions on model validity.

Three-Wave Mixing Kinetic Inductance Traveling-Wave Amplifier with Near-Quantum-Limited Noise Performance

M. Malnou et al.

Summary: This study presents a microwave kinetic inductance traveling-wave amplifier with noise performance approaching the quantum limit, suitable for large arrays of microwave kinetic inductance detectors and promising for multiplexed superconducting qubit readout. The amplifier operates in a three-wave mixing fashion, with reduced power of the microwave pump tone and associated parasitic heating compared to conventional devices. The system-added noise is measured between 3.5 and 5.5 GHz, showcasing the amplifier's potential for practical applications.

Squeezed comb states

Namrata Shukla et al.

Summary: Continuous-variable codes, such as the squeezed comb, offer a practical solution for quantum information processing and communication in optical networks. While the squeezed comb approximates the ideal code proposed by Gottesman et al., it is not fully protected against certain types of quantum noise, highlighting the importance of encoding parameters for noise robustness. In phase space analysis, squeezed comb states show complex interference features and exhibit different error susceptibility when exposed to damping and diffusion noise processes.
