Molecular mechanisms and consequences of mitochondrial permeability transition

Massimo Bonora et al.

Summary: Mitochondrial permeability transition, mediated by the opening of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore, causes flux of low molecular weight solutes across the inner mitochondrial membrane, triggering various cellular responses. Recent studies have shed light on the molecular nature and mechanisms of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore, paving the way for understanding mitochondrial biology and its pathophysiological consequences.

Overexpression of Bcl2 and Bcl2L1 Can Suppress Betanodavirus-Induced Type III Cell Death and Autophagy Induction in GF-1 Cells

Ang-Jung Lee et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of red-spotted grouper nervous necrosis virus (RGNNV) infection on the asymmetrical interaction between cell death and autophagy. The results show that RGNNV infection can induce autophagosome formation and the overexpression of Bcl2 and Bcl2L1 can modulate both cell death and autophagy. Furthermore, the downregulation of Bcl2 is correlated with the induction of cell death and the autophagy process.

Bcl-xL Reduces Chinese Giant Salamander Iridovirus-Induced Mitochondrial Apoptosis by Interacting with Bak and Inhibiting the p53 Pathway

Yiqun Li et al.

Summary: The study showed that AdBcl-xL protein level was significantly reduced during GSIV infection, and it played a negative role by binding to AdBak and inhibiting p53 activation, thus preventing GSIV-induced mitochondrial apoptosis and virus replication.
