A Unifying Approach for GFR Estimation: Recommendations of the NKF-ASN Task Force on Reassessing the Inclusion of Race in Diagnosing Kidney Disease

Cynthia Delgado et al.

Summary: The National Kidney Foundation and the American Society of Nephrology have made recommendations regarding the consideration of race in GFR estimation. They suggest implementing the CKD-EPI creatinine equation without the race variable in all US laboratories and promoting the use of cystatin C for more accurate estimation. They also encourage research on new filtration markers and interventions to eliminate racial disparities. The unified approach should be adopted nationwide.

A Unifying Approach for GFR Estimation: Recommendations of the NKF-ASN Task Force on Reassessing the Inclusion of Race in Diagnosing Kidney Disease

Cynthia Delgado et al.

Summary: A Task Force developed recommendations for reassessing inclusion of race in GFR estimation in the United States. The recommendations include immediate implementation of a creatinine equation refit without the race variable and increasing the use of cystatin C, as well as encouraging research on new filtration markers and interventions to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities.

Hantavirus infection-induced B cell activation elevates free light chains levels in circulation

Jussi Hepojoki et al.

Summary: The study shows that acute orthohantavirus infection increases Ig FLCs in serum of HFRS and HPS patients, and the increase correlates with the severity of acute kidney injury in HFRS. The elevation of FLCs in the urine suggests a relation to renal pathogenesis.
