A new reproductive mode in anurans: Natural history of Bokermannohyla astartea (Anura: Hylidae) with the description of its tadpole and vocal repertoire

Leo Ramos Malagoli et al.

Summary: Anurans, specifically the Paranapiacaba Treefrog, exhibit a new reproductive mode involving deposition of eggs in leaf-tanks of bromeliads and exotrophic tadpole development in streams. This species also displays a complex vocal repertoire previously unreported in the genus. The study highlights the unique reproductive biology of Bokermannohyla astartea and discusses evolutionary hypotheses for this novel reproductive mode.

The role of Indigenous and Community Conservation Areas in herpetofauna conservation: a preliminary list for Santa Cruz Tepetotutla, Oaxaca Mexico

Pablo Rogelio Simon-Salvador et al.

Summary: Field surveys were conducted in the montane cloud forests of the Sierra Madre de Oaxaca, revealing a diversity of 40 species of amphibians and reptiles. These surveys identified range extensions for 32.5% of the recorded species and altitudinal range extensions for 20% of the species. Furthermore, the rediscovery of Rhadinella schistosa highlights the importance of studying remote areas for increasing species population knowledge.
