Myxoid hepatocellular adenoma, a rare variant of hepatocellular adenoma with distinct imaging features: A case report with immunohistochemical and molecular analysis and literature review

Nicolas De Vos et al.

Summary: Preoperative imaging and histopathology, immunohistochemistry and molecular analysis were conducted on a 53-year-old female patient with 2 hepatocellular adenomas. The findings indicated both lesions were myxoid HCA, ruling out other types.

Applying criteria for hepatocellular neoplasm of uncertain malignant potential reclassifies more than half of hepatocellular adenomas

Brent K. Larson et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the criteria for categorizing well-differentiated hepatocellular neoplasms as having uncertain malignant potential (HUMP). The results showed that 62% of the masses were classified as HUMPs, with some showing focal cytological/atypical architectural atypia and features such as beta-catenin activation. Further studies are needed to refine the criteria for designating neoplasms as having uncertain malignant potential.

Hepatocellular adenoma, approximately half and predominantly inflammatory subtype, in 38 Japanese patients with several differences in age, gender, and clinical background factors from Western populations

Asami Izu et al.

Summary: In Japanese HCA cases, the proportions of U-HCA, male and elder cases were slightly higher than in Western countries, and most of elder patients were male. However, IHCA was common regardless of race, and was assumed to be the predominant subtype of HCA.

Predictive Patterns of Glutamine Synthetase Immunohistochemical Staining in CTNNB1-mutated Hepatocellular Adenomas

Christine Sempoux et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that different CTNNB1 mutations in hepatocellular adenoma lead to variable patterns of glutamine synthetase expression, which can predict the risk of malignant transformation. The identified GS patterns show sensitivity in predicting CTNNB1 mutations, particularly in exon 3 S45 mutations.

Hepatocellular neoplasms arising in genetic metabolic disorders: steatosis is common in both the tumor and background liver

Lin Cheng et al.

Summary: Our retrospective study on 9 patients with rare genetic metabolic disorders who developed hepatocellular neoplasms revealed that steatosis is a common finding in both tumor and background liver parenchyma, suggesting a possible role in tumorigenesis. The study also highlights the importance of considering underlying genetic metabolic disorders in young patients with hepatocellular neoplasms showing steatosis in both tumor and background liver.

Morphologic and Molecular Findings in Myxoid Hepatic Adenomas

Daniel J. Rowan et al.

Summary: Myxoid hepatic adenomas are a rare subtype of hepatic adenomas that predominantly occur in older individuals and have an elevated risk of malignant transformation. They are characterized by the combined inactivation of HNF1A and additional mutations that cluster in the PKA pathway.
