Effects of fringing capacitances and electrode's finiteness in improved SiC membrane based micromachined ultrasonic transducers

Moumita Pal et al.

Summary: This study examines the influence of fringe electric fields on the performance of Capacitance Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducer (CMUT) structures, introduces an insulation layer for improved performance and accurate prediction. It is found that CMUT with Si3N4 insulation layer outperforms structures without insulation in various aspects, showing higher device capacitance, increased membrane displacement, and lower collapse voltage.

Ultrasonic wireless power links for battery-free condition monitoring in metallic enclosures

Hailing Fu et al.

Summary: This study introduced a novel ultrasonic wireless power link (UWPL) for providing power supply to embedded condition monitoring of enclosed metallic structures without the need for battery replacement or recharging. The UWPL utilizes two piezoelectric transducers to establish a wireless power link, and experiments conducted on aluminium plates validated the power output.

Precise experimental determination of electrical equivalent circuit parameters for ultrasonic piezoelectric ceramic transducers from their measured characteristics

Premysl Janu et al.

Summary: This method determines electric equivalent circuit parameters of piezoelectric ceramic transducers from their resonance characteristics, focusing on commonly available transducers and being cost efficient. The key part is an iterative process to find the parameters, using linearized equations to determine them. The advantage lies in simplicity of measurement and calculation without the need for expensive circuit analyzers.

Stepped-plate ultrasonic transducer used as a source of harmonic radiation force optimized by genetic algorithm

Guilherme V. Selicani et al.

Summary: Circular stepped-plates are commonly used to produce continuous waves in air, offering high transmission efficiency, directive radiation patterns, and the ability to generate high-intensity airwave emission. The study focused on using a directional stepped-plate ultrasonic device with harmonic radiation force to excite the first flexural mode of a clamped-free beam. Design optimization was done using a genetic algorithm, while finite element analysis and linear acoustic theory were used to model the device's dynamic behavior and airwave propagation.

Summation of high-frequency Langevin transducers vibrations for increasing of ultrasonic radiator power

Vladimir Nikolaevich Khmelev et al.

Summary: This article presents the development and study of an ultrasonic radiator of increased power for control, location, cavitation processing of liquids, and coagulation of foreign particles in a gaseous media at frequencies from 30 to 90 kHz. Through a method of vibration summing and optimal dimension selection, real designs of US radiators with operating frequencies up to 90 kHz have been successfully created. The US radiator can generate exposure intensity ranging from 34.6 to 45 W/cm2, depending on the power and operating frequency, for cavitation processing of liquids.

Multiple input single output configurations to improve performances and robustness of acoustic power transfer

O. Freychet et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the use of multiple transmitters to focus acoustic waves on a receiver, presenting the equations for determining optimal magnitudes and phases of input voltages. Experimental validation shows significant improvements in efficiency and transmitted power with this technique. Using multiple emitters is demonstrated to be well suited for industrial applications requiring high power and robustness, particularly for non-aligned distributed sensor nodes in structural health monitoring.
