Trimmed Constrained Mixed Effects Models: Formulations and Algorithms

Peng Zheng et al.

Summary: Mixed effects (ME) models are widely used in the physical and social sciences, as well as in meta-analysis. This article introduces an efficient approach for ME models with linear random effects component to handle nonlinear measurements, priors, and constraints, providing robust estimates through trimming in the associated marginal likelihood. The open-source Python package LimeTr is able to recover results more accurately and efficiently, showing advanced functionality and robust extensions in analyses of global health data.
