The Relationship Between Lymph Node Ratio and Survival Benefit With Adjuvant Chemotherapy in Node-positive Esophageal Adenocarcinoma

Vignesh Raman et al.

Summary: In this study of patients with upfront, complete resection of node-positive esophageal adenocarcinoma, adjuvant chemotherapy was associated with improved survival for LNR >=12%. LNR may be used as an adjunct in decision-making about adjuvant therapies in this patient population.

Association between age and disease specific mortality in medullary thyroid cancer

Zeyad T. Sahli et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the association between age and disease specific mortality among adults diagnosed with medullary thyroid cancer. Older adults and super-elderly were found to have a higher risk of increased mortality, with age being an independent predictor of disease specific mortality. The extent of surgery and lymphadenectomy did not affect disease specific mortality in these patients.

Construction and Validation of a Nomogram Based on the Log Odds of Positive Lymph Nodes to Predict the Prognosis of Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma After Surgery

Jiajia Tang et al.

Summary: LODDS is an independent prognostic factor for MTC, showing superior prognostic efficiency over N status and PLNN, and its prediction model performs better than the AJCC TNM system in predicting CSS for MTC after surgery.

Crude annual incidence rate of medullary thyroid cancer and RET mutation frequency

Sara Milicevic et al.

Summary: The study found that 25.9% of MTC patients in Slovenia had germline mutations in the RET proto-oncogene, with codons 634 and 618 being the most common. The annual crude incidence rate of MTC in Slovenia was 0.34/100,000, supporting the future use of genetic counseling and testing for MTC patients in the region.

Prognostic Value of Preoperative Serum Calcitonin Levels for Predicting the Recurrence of Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma

Hyunju Park et al.

Summary: Preoperative serum calcitonin levels are useful in predicting disease recurrence and determining optimal postoperative follow-up strategies for patients with MTC. It is also the best predictive factor for disease-free survival.
