Multi-distribution activation energy model on slow pyrolysis of cellulose and lignin in TGA/DSC

Jonas Kristanto et al.

Summary: Developing a kinetic model for analyzing the multi-step reactions of biomass pyrolysis is crucial to understanding the pyrolysis mechanism. The Distributed Activation Energy Model (DAEM) is a reliable method, utilizing various distribution functions to characterize the pyrolysis process. Comparing DSC profiles can help determine pseudo-components accurately, providing insights into the activation energies of cellulose and lignin pyrolysis.

A comprehensive evaluation on pyrolysis behavior, kinetics, and primary volatile formation pathways of rice husk for application to catalytic valorization

Bin Tian et al.

Summary: Catalytic fast pyrolysis of rice husk is a promising and effective method for producing value-added products. Understanding the volatile compositions and kinetics during pyrolysis is crucial for controlling the quality of the target products. Experimental results showed that rice husk undergoes three mass loss and gaseous product evolution stages in different temperature ranges.

Co-pyrolysis of cellulose/lignin and sawdust: Influence of secondary condensation of the volatiles on characteristics of biochar

Chao Li et al.

Summary: The study investigated the co-pyrolysis of cellulose or lignin with sawdust and found interactions between their volatiles. Co-pyrolysis with cellulose tended to promote bio-oil production while co-pyrolysis with lignin enhanced biochar formation. Interaction between light species from cellulose and heavier ones from lignin transformed gases into bio-oil and produced more carbonaceous solid with sawdust. Biochar from cellulose co-pyrolysis had more oxygen-containing functionalities but lower thermal stability, while that from lignin co-pyrolysis exhibited the opposite characteristics.

Kinetic analysis and in-situ no support catalytic pyrolysis product distribution of Chinese herb residue

Shengxiong Huang et al.

Summary: The study found that catalysts can reduce the activation energy of pyrolysis reactions, but the activation energy of the reaction will increase sharply after the conversion rate exceeds 0.7. Compared to the group without catalyst, adding catalysts can inhibit gas generation but promote bio-oil production and char formation. Furthermore, the surface of the char is smoother with catalysts and enriched with metals like Ni, Fe, Cu, and Co, which could potentially be reused as catalytic agents.

Isoconversional kinetic analysis of overlapped pyrolysis reactions: The case of lignocellulosic biomass and blends with anthracite

Bowen Lin et al.

Summary: The study investigated the pyrolysis kinetics of cornstalk, bamboo fiber powder, and their blends with anthracite using a differential isoconversional method. The role of anthracite additive varied with different biomasses, affecting the activation energy differently. Deconvolution by the Fraser-Suzuki function improved the accuracy and reasonableness of the kinetic analysis.
