ICTs impacts on trade: a comparative dynamic analysis for internet, mobile phones and broadband

Summary: Our study shows a significant and positive relationship between internet use, mobile phones, and broadband with bilateral trade flows, although the impact varies depending on the type of technology. The effect of ICT use is greater for mobile phones and smaller for broadband, with a larger impact on the exporter than the importer. Mobile phones have the greatest effect on import countries in trade flows from high-income to low- and middle-income countries.

It finds that trade is a significant predictor of growth, the impact of trade and ICT adoption varies across sub-regions, and ICT innovation enhances the impact of trade on growth. However, inconsistency in results across sub-regions suggests that the level of ICT development in Africa is still inadequate.
