Comparison of fine-needle aspiration and fine-needle biopsy devices for endoscopic ultrasound-guided sampling of solid lesions: a systemic review and meta-analysis

Priscilla A. van Riet et al.

Summary: The meta-analyses showed that fine-needle biopsy (FNB) outperformed fine-needle aspiration (FNA) in obtaining tissue samples, with higher diagnostic accuracy and tissue core rate, and requiring fewer passes for diagnosis. Among different FNB devices, forward-facing bevel needles demonstrated higher diagnostic accuracy compared to reverse bevel needles. However, due to low quality of evidence, further research is needed to make strong recommendations on the optimal FNB design.

Comparison of contrast-enhanced versus conventional EUS-guided FNA/fine-needle biopsy in diagnosis of solid pancreatic lesions: a randomized controlled trial

In Rae Cho et al.

Summary: The study found that there was no significant difference in diagnostic sensitivity for solid pancreatic lesions between CEH-EUS and conventional EUS. CEH-EUS-guided FNA/FNB sampling may not need to be routinely used and can be selectively considered for small, indeterminate lesions.

Contrast-enhanced harmonic endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration versus standard fine-needle aspiration in pancreatic masses: a meta-analysis

Antonio Facciorusso et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis found that CH-EUS-FNA may provide superior diagnostic outcomes compared to standard EUS-FNA in patients with pancreatic masses, with higher diagnostic sensitivity, accuracy, and sample adequacy. Further trials are needed to confirm these results.

Enhanced EUS imaging (with videos)

Kumar Krishnan et al.

Summary: The study reviewed technologies and methods for enhanced imaging during EUS, focusing on elastography and contrast-enhanced EUS. These technologies are valuable for evaluating pancreatic mass lesions and providing adjunctive diagnostic information in specific clinical situations.

Optimal number of needle passes during EUS-guided fine-needle biopsy of solid pancreatic lesions with 22G ProCore needles and different suction techniques: A randomized controlled trial

Wei Zhou et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the optimal number of needle passes during EUS-FNB of solid pancreatic lesions with 22G FNB needles, finding that when on-site cytological evaluation is unavailable, at least 3 passes using the SS technique are recommended, while at least 4 passes are recommended when using the SP technique. The SS technique showed potential advantages in tissue acquisition and diagnostic capabilities over the SP technique.
