Advanced mechanical properties obtained via accurately tailoring stacking fault energy in Co-rich and Ni-depleted CoxCr33Ni67-x medium-entropy alloys

Dong Huang et al.

Summary: This paper designs a new CoxCr33Ni67-x medium-entropy alloy with controlled Cr content, which reflects the changes in Co and Ni content effectively. By adjusting the Co and Ni content, the stacking fault energy is reduced and the deformation mode is changed, resulting in high tensile strength and uniform elongation.

Multi-principal element alloys from the CrCoNi family: outlook and perspectives

Francisco G. Coury et al.

Summary: Great research effort is being employed in the development of Multi-Principal Element Alloys (MPEAs), focusing on the vast compositional field they exist in. Among the promising MPEAs, compositions containing large contents of Cr, Co and Ni, like the Cr33Co33Ni33 alloy, show outstanding combination of strength and ductility. The critical review in this work examines the history of MPEA development, phase equilibria, and main studies explaining the good mechanical properties of these alloys, highlighting grain refinement, solid solution strengthening, twinning, and transformation induced plasticity. The review also emphasizes the excellent properties of high Cr-containing alloys in terms of strength, ductility, corrosion resistance, and oxidation resistance, surpassing some Ni-superalloys.

Enhancing strength-ductility synergy in a casting non-equiatomic NiCoCr-based high-entropy alloy by Al and Ti combination addition

Xueling Huang et al.

Summary: By doping Al and Ti, the high-entropy alloy exhibits enhanced strength-ductility synergy with uniformly distributed, high-content nanoprecipitates. The formation of various dislocation substructures and crossed stacking faults contributes to the strain hardening of the high-entropy alloy.
