Geochemistry of salts and the effect of trace elements on human health: Turkey salt resources

Kiymet Deniz et al.

Summary: Salt is essential for various bodily functions, but an imbalance in its consumption can result in health problems. This study examines the mineralogy and geochemistry of salt samples from Turkey, comparing them with samples from the Himalayas and Asal Lake. The majority of Turkish salt consists of halite with small amounts of thenardite and gypsum, along with low concentrations of potentially toxic elements. Samples from Tuz Lake exhibit significant levels of these elements. The findings suggest that the mineralogy and geochemistry of salt can pose potential risks to human health.

Mica Types as Indication of Magma Nature, Central Anatolia, Turkey

Kiymet Deniz

Summary: This study investigates the nature of giant micas found at the contact between foid-bearing syenites and the metamorphic basement in Central Anatolia. The micas are dark greenish-black in color and form narrow lens-shaped bodies. Through mineralogical, petrographical, and geochemical analyses, it was determined that the micas are phlogopite and have been modified by a mixing event between crust- and mantle-derived magmas, as well as contaminated by the metamorphic rocks of the basement.
