Anthropometric indices, blood pressure, and lipid profile status among women using progestin-only contraceptives: comparative cross-sectional study

Mulu Shiferaw et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the differences in anthropometry indices, blood pressure, and lipid profile among women using progestin-only contraceptives in selected health facilities of Jimma town, Ethiopia. The results showed significant differences in various health outcomes between progestin-only contraceptive users and non-users, with DMPA users having higher total cholesterol levels. Furthermore, longer duration of use was associated with higher diastolic blood pressure among DMPA users.

In vitro and in silico investigations of endocrine disruption induced by metabolites of plasticizers through glucocorticoid receptor

Yue Leng et al.

Summary: The metabolites of plasticizers did not show direct effects on the glucocorticoid receptor, but they could synergistically activate the receptor in combination with dexamethasone. The study found that monobutyl phthalate (MBP) in combination with dexamethasone enhanced the expression of specific genes and proteins regulated by the glucocorticoid receptor. The interactions between MBP and the glucocorticoid receptor were influenced by the chemical properties of MBP, with hydrophobic and hydrogen bonding interactions playing crucial roles in stabilizing the complex.

GR-mediated anti-inflammation of α-boswellic acid: Insights from in vitro and in silico studies

Jie Zhang et al.

Summary: Alpha-boswellic acid can bind to and translocate the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) but lacks transcriptional activity, making it a potential selective GR modulator against inflammatory disorders. It showed dissociative characteristics, separating transrepression from transactivation, and inhibited cytokine production, confirming its anti-inflammation property in vitro.
