Light-Induced Al Plating on Si for Fabrication of an Ag-Free All-Al Solar Cell

Lewis Ricci et al.

Summary: This study proposes the use of light-induced electroplated Al as a substitute for screen-printed Ag for the front electrode of Si solar cells. Compared to Cu, Al has advantages and disadvantages, with the lowest resistivity being 3.1mu omega-cm. However, laser-induced damage causes the Al film to spike through the thin n-type emitter at 500 degrees Celsius annealing, leading to cell failure.
