The Control of Intramolecular Through-Bond and Through-Space Coupling in Single-Molecule Junctions

Zhibing Tan et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the transition of through-bond and through-space coupling in a single-molecule junction by regulating intramolecular donor-acceptor interactions. The variation of these interactions leads to a two orders of magnitude difference in single-molecule conductance.

Stimuli Responsive Stable Radical Anion for Conductance Switching

Monochura Saha et al.

Summary: Radical anions play important roles in various applications, but their generation and stabilization under ambient conditions can be challenging. This study reports a photogenerated NDI-based radical-anion that remains stable in water for over a month, forming a stacked supramolecular structure and conducting electricity with a linear I-V curve. The system exhibits a photoresponsive turn-on behavior with a high response ratio compared to its neutral precursor.

Reversible Switching between Destructive and Constructive Quantum Interference Using Atomically Precise Chemical Gating of Single-Molecule Junctions

Chun Tang et al.

Summary: This study introduces an atomically precise gating strategy to manipulate the quantum interference patterns at the single-molecule scale, achieving a complete switching from destructive to constructive QI modes and significant conductance modulation at room temperature. The chemical gating effect exerted locally on the pyridine nitrogen through selective interaction with cationic reagents demonstrates unique capabilities in modulating QI and offers potential for developing novel electronic devices.

Promotion and suppression of single-molecule conductance by quantum interference in macrocyclic circuits

Honglian Chen et al.

Summary: Single-molecule electronics focuses on studying the flow of electricity through devices made of single molecules, with the control of current flow being influenced by quantum interference. Research has shown that in tetracationic cyclophane circuits, electron transport is mediated by quantum interference between two lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals, resulting in either constructive or destructive interference and impacting overall conductivity. This design allows for the construction of single-molecule conductors and insulators based on a single cyclophane platform.

Effective suppression of conductance in multichannel molecular wires

Ping Duan et al.

Summary: In this study, an effective suppression of conductance in parallel intramolecular circuits beyond the well-known superposition effect was identified by introducing different conductivity channels. The experimental results demonstrated that the conductance decreases progressively with the addition of a low-conductivity channel. Theoretical investigation showed that the conductance suppression in multichannel structures is due to the higher contribution of the low-conductivity channel to the conductive orbitals.
