Stabilizing NMC 811 Li-Ion Battery Cathode through a Rapid Coprecipitation Process

Albert L. Lipson et al.

Summary: Increasing the Ni content in LiNixMnyCo1-x-yO2 (NMC) can lead to poor cycling performance and reduced thermal stability. However, these issues can be alleviated by creating concentration gradients in the materials, although this method requires more expensive batch processing. Therefore, a novel coating process may effectively improve the performance and thermal stability of the materials.

Summary: This study focuses on enhancing the thermal stability and electrochemical performance of LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2 (NCM622) through W-doping. Experimental and theoretical calculations show that W-doping is most favorable at Co sites, helping to suppress oxygen release and improve structural stability. In addition, W-doping reduces the energy barrier for Li+ migration and enhances lithium ion diffusion.

Engineering a Robust Interface on Ni-Rich Cathodes via a Novel Dry Doping Process toward Advanced High-Voltage Performance

Liang Luo et al.

Summary: Ni-rich layered oxides are commonly used as cathode materials for EV cells due to their high energy density, cost-effectiveness, and low toxicity. However, their high-voltage stability has not met the requirements of power batteries. A new dry interface modifying process was used to construct a Ti-based interfacial architecture on the surface of LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2 (NCM) cathode materials, improving cycling stability and capacity retention significantly. After 500 charge and discharge cycles, the capacity retention rate can reach 93%, demonstrating the effectiveness of this approach in enhancing the performance of Ni-rich cathode materials.
