Lanthanide electronic perturbation in Pt-Ln (La, Ce, Pr and Nd) alloys for enhanced methanol oxidation reaction activity

Summary: This study synthesized a series of Pt-Ln/C (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd) nanoalloy catalysts to enhance the electroactivity towards methanol oxidation and suppress the CO poisoning effect of Pt. Among them, Pt5Ce/C showed the best performance with 11.1 times higher specific activity compared to commercial Pt/C. The work demonstrates the critical promotion effect of lanthanide elements in the electroactivity of Pt, providing new ideas for designing efficient lanthanide alloy catalysts.

Cu-incorporated PtBi intermetallic nanofiber bundles enhance alcohol oxidation electrocatalysis with high CO tolerance

Summary: This study reports a facile surfactant-free strategy for producing Cu-incorporated PtBi intermetallic nanofiber bundles, which exhibit excellent electrocatalytic performance towards methanol and ethanol oxidation reactions. The Cu-PtBi NFBs show remarkable CO tolerance, superior mass and specific activities, as well as improved efficiency compared to commercial Pt/C, making them promising anodic materials for fuel cell applications. X-ray absorption fine structure analysis and density functional theory simulation confirm the key role of ordered PtBi-based structure and Cu-induced bifunctional effect in optimizing the CO-poisoning pathway.
