Adsorption of methylene blue from aqueous solutions using carboxyl/nitro-functionalized microparticles derived from polypropylene waste

Ahmed Bakry et al.

Summary: This study investigated the feasibility of using waste polypropylene film to prepare functionalized polypropylene microparticles for the adsorption of methylene blue from aqueous solutions. The results showed that increasing polymer dosage, pH, and contact time improved the removal of methylene blue from water. The kinetic and equilibrium studies suggested that the adsorption process followed a chemisorption mechanism, with a maximum adsorption capacity achieved under specific temperature and pH conditions.

Synergistic effects of surface aminolysis and hydrolysis on improving fibroblast cell colonization within poly(L-lactide) scaffolds

Ahmed Bakry

Summary: This study proposed a method to overcome low internal cell colonization within tissue engineering scaffolds by combining modified PLLAsc and PDLLA. The results showed that the scaffolds had proper morphology, hydrophilicity, and strength. The combination of aminolyzed and hydrolyzed PLLAsc with PDLLA could result in a mechanically stable scaffold with enhanced cell colonization.

Solid waste sub-driven acidic mesoporous activated carbon structures for efficient uranium capture through the treatment of industrial phosphoric acid

Asmaa S. Morshedy et al.

Summary: This study presents the manufacturing of bio-char from rice-straw by low-temperature pyrolysis as a new trend, and the use of activated carbons for uranium removal from phosphoric acid. Among the three structures studied, it was found that hydrochloric acid activated carbon (HAC) has the highest adsorption capacity for uranium removal. The adsorption processes of the three structures followed the pseudo-second-order model and Langmuir isotherm model, with the sorption capacity of 2.3, 2.5, and 3.3 for BC, NAC, and HAC, respectively.

Muhammad Imran Khan et al.

Summary: In this study, a homogeneous triethanolamine functionalized-anion exchange membrane was successfully fabricated through solution casting method, showing higher thermal stability and homogeneous morphology. The fabricated membrane was used for the adsorptive discharge of methyl orange from aqueous solution at room temperature. Results indicated that the percentage discharge of methyl orange increased with contact time, amount of the fabricated AEM (adsorbent), and temperature. The adsorption kinetics for the discharge of methyl orange onto the prepared AEM followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model.
