Innovative strategy for designing proton conducting ceramic tapes and multilayers for energy applications

Elisa Mercadelli et al.

Summary: This study presents the use of Dynamic Mechanical Analysis to characterize the thermo-mechanical behavior of green tapes, with a focus on the impact of rice starch pore former content on the tape properties and lamination process. It identified an optimal lamination viscosity (10(10) Pa s) required for suitable adhesion among the layers, regardless of the tape formulation. The study also highlighted the increase in temperature required for proper lamination with higher rice starch content in the tapes.

Gd-doped ceria enhanced triple-conducting membrane for efficient hydrogen separation

Lujian Jia et al.

Summary: By doping Gd-doped ceria (CGO) with excellent oxygen ionic conductivity into Sr-based hydrogen separation membranes, a novel triple-conducting (H+/O2-/e(-)) membrane, Ce0.90Gd0.10O3-delta-SrCe0.95Fe0.05O3 (-delta)-SrFe0.95Ce0.05O3-delta (CGO-SCF-SFC), was developed through automatic phase-separation of ceramic precursors. The membrane showed improved H-2 separation performance and enhanced CO2-tolerance, achieving a stable hydrogen separation flux of 0.33 mL min(-1) cm(-2) under CO2-containing atmospheres.

Role of barium carbonate and barium silicate nanoparticles in the performance of cement mortar

Hamdy A. Abdel-Gawwad et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of low-cost barium carbonate and barium silicate nanoparticles on the performance and phase composition of cement mortar. The results show that the addition of barium silicate nanoparticles exhibits higher efficiency in enhancing mechanical properties and phase composition. Barium silicate nanoparticles play a significant role in the formation of additional calcium silicate hydrate content through the consumption of portlandite, leading to the successful application of cement-NBS mixtures as super sulfate resistant cements.
