Anaerobic wastewater treatment and reuse enabled by thermophilic bioprocessing integrated with a bioelectrochemical/ultrafiltration module

Bhuvan Vemuri et al.

Summary: The study developed a module for anaerobic wastewater treatment and reuse using thermophilic bioprocessing, MFC, and UF treatment. A consortium of Thermoanaerobacterium thermosaccharolyticum and Arcobacter sp. was used to remove most of the COD anaerobically, with subsequent MFC and UF treatment meeting the secondary treatment standards and reuse criteria. The study also improved the energy efficiency of UF membranes by modifying their surfaces with various coatings.

Antifungal properties of poly[2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] (PDMAEMA) and quaternized derivatives

Marco A. De Jesus-Tellez et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of PDMAEMAs with different molar masses were synthesized by RAFT polymerization and treated with two alkyl halides to assess their antifungal activity against various fungi. The results demonstrated that PDMAEMAs, especially those with low molar mass, exhibited significant antifungal properties, with DQ having less impact than molar mass on antifungal activity. This detailed screening contributes to a better understanding of PDMAEMA-based composites for antimicrobial protective coatings.
