Neutrophil-like Cell-Membrane-Coated Nanozyme Therapy for Ischemic Brain Damage and Long-Term Neurological Functional Recovery

Lishuai Feng et al.

Summary: This study introduces a neutrophil-like cell-membrane-coated mesoporous Prussian blue nanozyme, which improves the delivery of the nanozyme to the damaged brain for noninvasive active-targeting therapy in ischemic stroke. The long-term therapeutic efficacy of this nanozyme in ischemic stroke is demonstrated, with a detailed mechanism involving uptake by microglia leading to beneficial effects like microglia polarization, reduced recruitment of neutrophils, decreased neuron apoptosis, and neural cell proliferation. This strategy offers an approach for nanozyme therapy in brain diseases.

Irisin/FNDC5: A participant in camel metabolism

Doaa Kirat et al.

Summary: This study investigated the quantification, localization, production, function, and regulation of irisin/FNDC5 in camel species, as well as the impact of exercise on blood and tissue irisin protein levels and gene expression. The results showed that exercise influences tissue-specific regulation of camel irisin, FNDC5, and PGC-1 alpha levels, which in turn regulates circulating irisin levels and is associated with metabolic and hormonal responses to exercise.

Facile and sensitive measurement of GSH/GSSG in cells by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy

Yingjie Zhu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel and sensitive method for monitoring intracellular GSH and GSSG concentrations using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). By introducing a reduction-sensitive reaction-type Raman probe, the method allows for quantitative measurement of GSH and GSSG with high sensitivity. The SERS method proves to be feasible in rapidly and sensitively monitoring GSH depletion behaviors and may be valuable in cellular detoxication events involving GSH.

Selective detection of glutathione by flower-like NiV2O6 with only peroxidase-like activity at neutral pH

Qiqi Zhu et al.

Summary: In this study, flower-like NiV2O6 nanozyme with peroxidase-like activity under neutral conditions was successfully synthesized and applied for the detection of glutathione (GSH). The method showed good sensitivity and specificity, with a linear relationship in GSH concentration and satisfactory performance in detecting GSH in various samples. The constructed assay holds great potential for clinical application, as demonstrated by consistent results with UPLC and assay kit.

Nanobodies from camelid mice and llamas neutralize SARS-CoV-2 variants

Jianliang Xu et al.

Summary: The study found that camelid nanobodies can effectively circumvent vaccine escape caused by mutations in the novel coronavirus. These nanobodies are able to neutralize SARS-CoV-2 variants through two mechanisms, demonstrating promising potential in preventing COVID-19 mortality when vaccines are compromised.
