Lauric Acid Induces Apoptosis of Rice Sheath Blight Disease Caused by Rhizoctonia solani by Affecting Fungal Fatty Acid Metabolism and Destroying the Dynamic Equilibrium of Reactive Oxygen Species

Jian Wang et al.

Summary: Through RNA sequencing, it was found that lauric acid can inhibit Rhizoctonia solani by affecting protein processing in the endoplasmic reticulum, carbon metabolism, and starch and sucrose metabolism pathways. In addition, lauric acid can induce changes in ergosterol content in the cell membrane, leading to endoplasmic reticulum stress and apoptosis.

Effect of Membrane Curvature Nanoarchitectonics on Membrane-Disruptive Interactions of Antimicrobial Lipids and Surfactants

Suji Moon et al.

Summary: Fatty acids, monoglycerides, and related surfactants have been studied as membrane-disrupting antimicrobials, with their interaction with different-sized vesicles revealing varying effects dependent on vesicle curvature. The experimental observations are rationalized by considering the interplay of headgroup properties and curvature-induced membrane geometry, demonstrating that membrane curvature nanoarchitectonics strongly influence the membrane interaction profiles of antimicrobial lipids and surfactants.

Futuristic Non-antibiotic Therapies to Combat Antibiotic Resistance: A Review

Manoj Kumar et al.

Summary: The increasing resistance to antibiotics in microorganisms is a global health concern, with antibiotic-resistant genes from the environmental resistome being transferred to human and veterinary pathogens. Developing strategies to prevent excessive exposure of pathogens to antibiotics is crucial to combat this challenge effectively.

Real-time nanoplasmonic sensing of three-dimensional morphological changes in a supported lipid bilayer and antimicrobial testing applications

Bo Kyeong Yoon et al.

Summary: This study developed a real-time biosensing strategy to detect three-dimensional morphological changes in supported lipid bilayers on a plasmonic substrate. The concept was validated by triggering specific three-dimensional membrane morphological changes through the addition of antimicrobial fatty acids and other compounds. Different remodeling events were detected by distinct measurement signatures, which can be applicable to various biosensing techniques.

Suppression of human T cell activation by derivatives of glycerol monolaurate

Micaela G. Fosdick et al.

Summary: This study explores the structural components of GML necessary for its suppression of human T cell activation through an extensive structure activity relationship analysis. It was found that an acyl chain with 12-14 carbons, a polar head group, an ester linkage, and a single laurate group at any position are all necessary for GML to inhibit protein clustering, calcium signaling, and cytokine production.
