Damaged cable identification in cable-stayed bridge from bridge deck strain measurements using support vector machine

Jianying Ren et al.

Summary: A new two-step approach using Support Vector Machine is developed for damaged cable identification in a cable-stayed bridge. The approach includes constructing a Damaged Cable Identification Machine (DCIM) and a Damage Severity Identification Machine (DSIM) based on support vector classification and regression respectively. The proposed method is verified using a field cable-stayed bridge and has shown good generalization capability and anti-noise capability.

A substructural and wavelet multiresolution approach for identifying time-varying physical parameters by partial measurements

Ning Yang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel two-step approach based on substructural identification technique to identify the time-varying physical parameters of linear structures with more degrees of freedom using only partially measured responses. The full structure is divided into several substructures, and the identification of each substructure is achieved through parallel computing. In the first step, the fading-factor generalized extended Kalman filter under unknown input algorithm is used to locate the time-varying physical parameters. In the second step, a synthesized method is developed based on the integration of wavelet multiresolution analysis and the generalized Kalman filter under unknown input to quantitatively identify the time-varying physical parameters.

Damage identification of suspender cables by adding virtual supports with the substructure isolation method

Jilin Hou et al.

Summary: This study proposed a method for identifying cable damage by adding virtual supports to each cable, thus making the relationship between cable forces and natural frequency linear. The effectiveness of the method was verified experimentally, confirming that the natural frequency of the isolated cable substructure is a highly sensitive damage indicator.

Variational Mode Decomposition Based Time-Varying Force Identification of Stay Cables

Shitong Hou et al.

Summary: The study introduced a novel method for identifying time-varying cable tension based on the variational mode decomposition (VMD) method, which can effectively handle sudden changes in cable force with a maximum error of 8.4%. The validity of the proposed method was demonstrated through the implementation of scaled and full-scale models, and accurate real-time results were obtained during on-site testing.

Structural damage identification with limited modal measurements and ultra-sparse Bayesian regression

Mingqiang Xu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel approach for structural damage identification using a limited number of modal measurements and ultra-sparse Bayesian regression. The method establishes a linear regression model, iteratively solves insufficient mode orders, and introduces Horseshoe (HS) for ultra-sparse regularization. The approach effectively solves incomplete measurements and provides good stability, making it suitable for structural damage identification with sparse solutions.

Identification of time-varying nonlinear structural physical parameters by integrated WMA and UKF/UKF-UI

Ning Yang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes three methods for identifying the time-varying physical parameters of nonlinear structures using partially measured structural responses. By integrating the fading-factor unscented Kalman filter (FUKF) with wavelet multiresolution analysis (WMA) and UKF, efficient and accurate identification can be achieved.
