Research on in-situ corrosion process monitoring and evaluation of reinforced concrete via ultrasonic guided waves

Yuqing Liu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a simple strategy for monitoring the corrosion process in reinforced concrete using the peak-to-peak amplitude of ultrasonic guided waves. The results indicate that the amplitude variation can identify the initial and cover cracking stages, with the minimum value indicating the initial cracking and the maximum value representing the cover cracking. The steel type has little effect on the amplitude value, but a higher water-to-cement ratio and thicker concrete cover can significantly decrease the amplitude value.
