Influence of seven levels of chemical/biostimulator protection on amino acid profile and yield traits in wheat

Piotr Iwaniuk et al.

Summary: The combination of biostimulators and pesticides can reduce the use of chemical crop protection and produce healthy wheat with high grain quality and nutritional value. This four-year field study assessed the effects of different levels of herbicides, fungicides, and humic biostimulators on amino acid concentrations and yield parameters in wheat under diverse climatic conditions. The results showed that the application of pesticides and biostimulators reduced amino acid concentrations, and the combination of herbicide and fungicide with humic biostimulator was the most effective strategy for increasing yield and quality parameters in wheat.

Antioxidant gene expression analysis and evaluation of total phenol content and oxygen-scavenging system in tea accessions under normal and drought stress conditions

Mehdi Rahimi et al.

Summary: The results of this study highlighted the importance of antioxidant enzymes in tea accessions under drought stress conditions, with 100 and 399 accessions showing the highest antioxidant enzyme values. Different tea accessions demonstrated varying levels of antioxidant activity and IC50 values, with 100 and 399 accessions being identified as stress-tolerant and 278 and 276 accessions as sensitive under drought stress conditions. Total phenol content, antioxidant activity, and the oxygen-scavenging system were found to be useful descriptors for identifying drought-tolerant tea accessions.

Glutathione in Protein Redox Modulation through S-Glutathionylation and S-Nitrosylation

Elena Kalinina et al.

Summary: S-glutathionylation and S-nitrosylation are reversible post-translational modifications on the cysteine thiol groups of proteins, important for regulating protein functional activity and cellular processes. The connection and switch functions between these modifications are performed by GSNO, dependent on factors like GSH content, GSH/GSSG ratio, and cellular redox state. Trx family enzymes play a crucial role in regulating these processes, with their activity determined by cellular redox status and GSH/GSSG ratio.

Effects of foliar fungicide on yield, micronutrients, and cadmium in grains from historical and modern hard winter wheat genotypes

Hollman Motta-Romero et al.

Summary: Over the past 80 years, while the yield of wheat has increased, the concentrations of protein, iron, and zinc in grains have decreased significantly, while the concentration of cadmium has increased. This suggests that modern wheats are becoming less nutritious and a better vehicle for dietary cadmium intake.

Exogenous hydrogen peroxide induces chilling tolerance in Phalaenopsis seedlings through glutathione-related antioxidant system

Wei-Ling Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, the researchers investigated the efficiency and mechanism of chilling tolerance induced by transient oxidative shock with H2O2 pretreatment in Phalaenopsis seedlings, finding that the pretreatment reduced chilling injury. Different concentrations and frequencies of H2O2 pretreatment had varying effects on chilling tolerance and plant morphology. The findings suggest that the exogenous H2O2-induced chilling tolerance in Phalaenopsis seedlings may involve the glutathione-related oxidant defense system.
