Assessment of heterosis based on parental genetic distance estimated with SSR and SNP markers in upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)

Xiaoli Geng et al.

Summary: The study investigated the genetic distance (GD) between parents using SSR and SNP markers, and examined the efficiency of predicting hybrid performance based on GD. Results showed that the GD between parents could be helpful in predicting heterosis for specific traits, and molecular marker analysis can be used to assign germplasm into heterotic groups and guide parental selection in hybrid cotton breeding.
