Congenital Chylothorax and Hydrops Fetalis: A Novel Neonatal Presentation of RASA1 Mutation

Alessia Gallipoli et al.

Summary: This report describes a case of a late preterm female infant presenting with nonimmune hydrops fetalis and congenital chylothorax, with a RASA1 deletion detected on genetic workup. This novel and nonclassic presentation of RASA1 mutation highlights the importance of considering RASA1 mutations as part of the differential diagnosis in cases of congenital chylothorax, especially with nonimmune hydrops fetalis.

Development and physiological functions of the lymphatic system: insights from human genetic studies of primary lymphedema

Silvia Martin-Almedina et al.

Summary: Primary lymphedema is a chronic condition characterized by tissue lymph retention and swelling, often affecting any part of the body. Dysfunction in the lymphatic system can have wide-ranging effects on immune function, cancer development, and fat transport. Genetic studies have shown primary lymphedema to be heterogenous in genetic causes and disease mechanisms.

Lymphatic Malformations Genetics, Mechanisms and Therapeutic Strategies

Taija Makinen et al.

Summary: Lymphatic vessels play a crucial role in maintaining tissue fluid homeostasis and immune surveillance. Developmental or functional defects in lymphatic vessels can lead to lymphedema. Recent advancements have identified genetic causes and molecular pathways underlying lymphatic malformations and complex lymphatic anomalies, paving the way for targeted therapies.

Genetic Basis and Therapies for Vascular Anomalies

Angela Queisser et al.

Summary: In recent years, research on genetic and somatic mutations in vascular and lymphatic malformations has led to the evaluation of preexisting cancer drugs that interfere with these signaling pathways, marking the beginning of personalized treatment for vascular anomalies.

When form meets function: the cells and signals that shape the lymphatic vasculature during development

Mathias Francois et al.

Summary: The lymphatic vasculature is crucial for tissue fluid homeostasis, immune cell trafficking, and lipid absorption from the digestive tract. Recent advancements in understanding the genetic and cellular events involved in lymphatic vasculature development have identified new sources of lymphatic endothelial progenitor cells, revealed endothelial cell specialization and heterogeneity, and discovered novel genes and signaling pathways essential for lymphangiogenesis during development.
