Early detection of breast cancer rectifies inequality of breast cancer outcomes

Laszlo Tabar et al.

Summary: All counties in Sweden showed varying reductions in breast cancer death hazards with participation in screening, ranging from 51% to 81%. The survival rates for nonparticipating women ranged from 53% to 74%, while for participating women it ranged from 80% to 86%, indicating that the performance of screening services was similar across counties and early detection and treatment of breast cancer can reduce inequalities in outcomes.

A Validated Risk Prediction Model for Breast Cancer in US Black Women

Julie R. Palmer et al.

Summary: The study aimed to develop and evaluate a risk prediction model for breast cancer in US Black women, and found that the discriminatory accuracy of the new model was similar to that of the most frequently used models in White women. This new model may be particularly valuable for risk stratification of young Black women below the typical age for breast cancer screening.

Summary: Improved breast cancer risk models like Mirai utilize deep learning to achieve earlier detection and less harm from screenings. By training on diverse datasets and demonstrating superior accuracy, Mirai outperforms prior models in identifying high-risk patients across different populations.

Distribution of Estimated Lifetime Breast Cancer Risk Among Women Undergoing Screening Mammography

Bethany L. Niell et al.

Summary: This study investigated the concordance of three breast cancer risk prediction models among women undergoing screening mammography. Results showed variations in risk classification between the models, with the Tyrer-Cuzick version 7 model categorizing more women as having a high lifetime breast cancer risk. Practices should consider using estimates from multiple risk prediction models to identify women at high risk for breast cancer.

Summary: This study identified that the geographic location of radiology practices, subspecialties in breast imaging, and performing diagnostic mammography are associated with better screening mammography performance, while the performance of breast ultrasound is associated with lower performance.
