Real-world emissions and fuel consumption of gasoline and hybrid light duty vehicles under local and regulatory drive cycles

Ran Tu et al.

Summary: The study found that acceleration state tends to generate the highest emissions and fuel consumption, with HEV producing four times more CO emissions than some ICEVs. Toronto-specific drive cycles have difficulty meeting labeled fuel efficiency values, and HEV's CO emissions may be higher than ICEVs but still average 42% lower than the emission limit.

Tyre and road wear particles - A calculation of generation, transport and release to water and soil with special regard to German roads

Beate Baensch-Baltruschat et al.

Summary: This study calculated the emissions of tyre wear particles annually generated on the German road network and considered the environmental entry paths including releases to ambient air, soils, and surface waters. There was also a focus on road runoff treatment differentiated into sewage systems in urban areas and non-urban roads.

Comparative life cycle assessment of conventional, electric and hybrid passenger vehicles in Spain

Gonzalo Puig-Samper Naranjo et al.

Summary: This study evaluates and compares the potential environmental effects of electric, hybrid, petrol, and diesel cars in Spain. Results show that electric vehicles have significantly lower CO2 emissions over their lifecycle, but may produce an increase in fine particulate matter formation, human carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic toxicity, and various ecotoxicity levels compared to petrol vehicles. Transfer of environmental burdens between phases poses a new challenge at environmental, social, and legal levels.
