Molecular insights into plant-microbe interactions for sustainable remediation of contaminated environment

Niraj R. Rane et al.

Summary: The widespread distribution of organic and inorganic pollutants in water resources has increased due to rapid industrialization, and rhizospheric zone-associated bacteria along with endophytic bacteria play an important role in the remediation of various pollutants. Emerging metaomics technologies offer detailed information on exclusive microbial communities in the rhizosphere of plants. Additionally, functional methodologies such as transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics help reveal the mechanisms of plant-microbe interactions and their synergistic roles in pollutant remediation.

Trends in Molecular Diagnosis and Diversity Studies for Phytosanitary Regulated Xanthomonas

Vittoria Catara et al.

Summary: Bacteria in the Xanthomonas genus infect a wide range of crops and wild plants, causing global economic and environmental impacts. The non-specific symptoms of Xanthomonas spp. infections make identification difficult. Future climate change scenarios predict an increase in epidemic severity and geographical expansion of pathogens, putting more pressure on plant health services.

Bioaugmentation of treatment wetlands - A review

Katharina Tondera et al.

Summary: Bioaugmentation using artificial mycorrhization of plant roots and bacterial inoculation has shown successful application in soil remediation and activated sludge treatment. However, full scale implementation in treatment wetlands is scarce. Inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi has positive effects on plant growth, while bacterial inoculation promotes plant growth and pollutant degradation, but longer term data is needed.
