Effect of chelated iron activated peroxydisulfate oxidation on perchloroethene-degrading microbial consortium

Lenka McGachy et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of In-Situ Chemical Oxidation (ISCO) using peroxydisulfate (PDS) on a chloroethenes-degrading microbial consortium in the presence of perchloroethene (PCE). The results showed that coupling PDS with microbial consortium did not improve PCE removal efficiency and indigenous microbes may reduce the efficiency of PDS during a remediation process. High-throughput 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis revealed a negative impact of PDS on organohalide-respiring bacteria (OHRB).

Organic complexation of iron by strong ligands and siderophores in the eastern tropical North Pacific oxygen deficient zone

Laura E. Moore et al.

Summary: Continental margins are a significant source of dissolved iron to the marine environment. The study in the Eastern Tropical North Pacific oxygen deficient zone (ETNP ODZ) revealed high concentrations of organic iron-binding ligands, including siderophores produced by microbes, which could impact the transport and distribution of iron. Strong organic ligands have a substantial effect on the longevity and transport of iron in the ODZ, suggesting that organic ligand composition plays a crucial role in regulating offshore iron transport in the open ocean.

Synergistic effect of ACC deaminase producing Pseudomonas sp. TR15a and siderophore producing Bacillus aerophilus TR15c for enhanced growth and copper accumulation in Helianthus annuus L

Adarsh Kumar et al.

Summary: The study found that a consortium of bacteria with high ACC deaminase and siderophore production capabilities can significantly improve seed germination and growth of sunflower seeds, as well as reduce copper uptake in roots and shoots, compared to individual bacterial cultures. This suggests that the consortium may play an important role in enhancing plant copper uptake and improving biomass.

Efficiency of dihydroxamic and trihydroxamic siderochelates to extract uranium and plutonium from contaminated soils

Laureline Fevrier et al.

Summary: Actinide-based mineral phases in contaminated soils can be solubilized by organic chelators like citrate excreted by plants. In this study, citrate showed higher efficiency in extracting U and Pu compared to siderophores. The ability of different chelators to solubilize U, Pu, and Fe varied in different soils, with citrate showing better Pu extraction and DFB showing better Fe extraction.
