Impact of Phytoplankton Blooms on Concentrations of Antibiotics in Sediment and Snails in a Subtropical River, China

Jinpeng Tang et al.

Summary: The three-year field investigation in the eutrophic Pearl River in South China revealed that concentrations of different antibiotics in sediment were significantly correlated with the occurrence of blooms, with some antibiotics showing burial phenomena. Meanwhile, there was a positive correlation between chlorophyll a concentration and antibiotic concentration in sediment, while tetracycline concentration was inversely related to phytoplankton biomass.

Antibiotics in mariculture organisms of different growth stages: Tissue-specific bioaccumulation and influencing factors

Xuanrui Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the tissue-specific bioaccumulation characteristics of 19 antibiotics in maricultured organisms at different growth stages, revealing that the bioaccumulation capacity varies among organisms at different stages. Tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones were found to be the dominant antibiotics, with the total concentrations higher in fish compared to shrimp and sea cucumber.

Antibiotics in a subtropical food web from the Beibu Gulf, South China: Occurrence, bioaccumulation and trophic transfer

Qi Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the occurrence, bioaccumulation, and trophic magnification of 22 antibiotics in a subtropical food web from the Beibu Gulf. The research found distinct differences in antibiotic concentrations and types among marine taxa, with some chemicals showing trophic magnification through the food web. Additionally, the study highlighted the potential bioaccumulation of antibiotics in marine organisms based on their log D-ow values.
