Effect of pyrethroid insecticides exposure in relation to pyrethroid metabolite and GABA concentration of young children, Bangkok Thailand

Jadsada Kunno et al.

Summary: This study found a negative correlation between urinary pyrethroids metabolite and neurotransmitter GABA concentration in young children, and identified factors such as personal exposure, frequency of insecticide use, and floor-cleaning that are associated with pyrethroids metabolite levels.

Occupational pesticide use and self-reported olfactory impairment in US farmers

Srishti Shrestha et al.

Summary: The study found associations between pesticide exposure and olfactory impairment, especially with the long-term use of certain pesticides increasing the risk of olfactory impairment. These associations were relatively broad, involving multiple pesticides and chemical classes, suggesting that pesticides may affect olfaction through multiple pathways.

Lifetime Pesticide Use and Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance in a Prospective Cohort of Male Farmers

Jonathan N. Hofmann et al.

Summary: The study revealed a significantly elevated prevalence of MGUS among farmers compared to the general population, with associations found between MGUS and certain pesticides, such as permethrin. The findings highlight potential health implications for individuals exposed to permethrin in various settings.

Variability of urinary pyrethroid biomarkers in Chinese young-aged men and women over one year

Xuan Lin et al.

Summary: The study found poor reproducibility of urinary pyrethroid biomarkers concentration in young adults. Log-transformed 3PBA provides reliable biomarker estimates. It is recommended to collect at least 4 urine samples every 3 months for evaluating pyrethroid exposure in epidemiological studies.

Seasonal variations in levels of human thyroid-stimulating hormone and thyroid hormones: a meta-analysis

N. V. Kuzmenko et al.

Summary: This study found that TSH levels are higher in winter and FT4 levels are higher in autumn. T3 levels are significantly higher in winter compared to summer, and FT3 levels are lower in summer compared to autumn and spring. The study also revealed gender differences in the seasonal dynamics of TSH and FT4, showing pronounced increases in TSH levels in winter for women and significant increases in FT4 levels in summer for men. Seasonal dynamics of TSH did not change with respect to age. The extent of the seasonal dynamics of TSH is influenced by the annual dynamics of oxygen density in the air, as well as meteorological factors such as atmospheric pressure and relative humidity.

Exposure to multiple pesticides and neurobehavioral outcomes among smallholder farmers in Uganda

Samuel Fuhrimann et al.

Summary: The study found an association between overall pesticide exposure and several neurobehavioral outcome variables, but predominantly null associations when examining individual pesticide active ingredients, except for a positive association between glyphosate exposure and impaired visual memory. Further epidemiological studies are needed to evaluate glyphosate's neurotoxicity while considering confounding factors.

Hair versus urine for the biomonitoring of pesticide exposure: Results from a pilot cohort study on pregnant women

Emilie M. Hardy et al.

Summary: The study compared urine and hair samples from pregnant women to assess pesticide exposure. Results showed that hair analysis provided more comprehensive information than urine analysis, with a higher number and frequency of compounds detected in hair samples. The study supports the relevance of using hair analysis in future epidemiological studies on pesticide exposure and health effects.

Exposure to non-persistent pesticides and puberty timing: a systematic review of the epidemiological evidence

Francesca Castiello et al.

Summary: Exposure to different types of pesticides has been associated with altered puberty timing in girls and/or boys in several studies, such as atrazine, organophosphate pesticides, and pyrethroids. Most studies describe a relationship between pesticide exposure and changes in the age of puberty onset or sex hormone levels, although the quality of evidence is generally low.

Relationship between Prenatal or Postnatal Exposure to Pesticides and Obesity: A Systematic Review

Helena Pinos et al.

Summary: The study indicates that the effects of pesticide exposure on body weight are inconclusive, with conflicting results in both humans and experimental animals. These outcomes depend on factors such as dosage, species, sex, and treatment duration, emphasizing the need for further research to effectively evaluate the combined impact of different pesticides on human health.
